We are looking for a Trainee Yard Operative to join our new Nottingham Depot team.
Location: Long Eaton, Nottingham
Wage: £NWM
Hours: 11am– 7pm
Days: Weekdays only
We are looking for a Trainee Yard Operative to join our new Nottingham Depot team. The applicant will work under the supervision of our 2 current trained Yard Managers. And be responsible for maintaining yard operations, handling materials, and ensuring a safe and organised work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Material Handling: Load and unload equipment, containers, and building materials safely. Physical work, with lifting and carrying for large parts of the shift.
Site Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the yard areas, including general housekeeping.
Traffic and Safety Management: Perform Banksman style duties, and ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies.
Administrative Tasks: Record equipment usage, complete relevant paperwork, and communicate effectively with management and colleagues.
Customer Service: Support delivery operations and provide assistance to customers when necessary, maintaining high service standards.
Required Skills and Attributes
Physical Fitness: Ability to perform manual handling safely.
Communication: Clear verbal and written communication with management, colleagues, and customers.
Initiative and Reliability: Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently while following instructions.
Numerical and IT Skills: Basic numeracy and familiarity with IT or mobile apps for equipment booking and tracking. Must be IT literate.
Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and other staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Licenses: A full UK Driving Licence is advantageous but not always essential. A Fork-lift Licence is also desirable but not essential.
Experience: Prior experience in yard operations, building materials, or machinery handling is beneficial but not always required.
A basic knowledge of Traffic Management would be advantageous but full training will be given.
Environment: Outdoor and indoor yard settings requiring adherence to safety protocols
Training: On-the-job training is usually provided, including health and safety, and company procedures.
